The Delphi Murders

This story is a hard one to tell because it recounts the chilling story of the murders of two young girls, Abigail “Abby” Williams and Liberty “Libby” German. Almost 3 years ago to the day, on February 13, 2017, these two girls were dropped off at a trail near the well-known Monon High Bridge near Deer Creek, Indiana. They were dropped off around 1 P.M and were supposed to be picked up around 3 P.M. We know the girls were still alive a little after 2 P.M because Libby posted a snapchat of Abby at exactly 2:07 P.M walking across the trail.

The girls failed to show at their pick up time, but this did not initially strike panic because their ride just simply believed they lost track of time. However, as more time went by the families became worried enough that they contacted local law enforcement notifying them that something must be wrong. Following their disappearance, a press conference was held explaining to the public that they did not suspect foul play or danger. They did launch a search party though that combed through the area until it became too dark to do so any more that night.

On Valentine’s Day, the day following their disappearance, a volunteer searcher came across their two bodies. Following the autopsy the next day, the police held a press conference confirming it was in fact the bodies of Libby and Abby and that their deaths were ruled a homicide. These two girls were wise and likely knew they were in danger. Wise beyond their years, they took their phones out to record their attacker and even managed to get a small voice recording of their attacker saying “down the hill”. There was also a photo of a white man wearing a blue jacket, jeans, and a hat. Following the press conference, police released a sketch of what they believed this man to look like. The man was not considered a suspect at the time, but as the police investigated further they eventually named him the main suspect.

There were many men that were detained and questioned about these murders. The girl’s bodies were found on the property of 77 year old Ron Logan, who was questioned but later released after police determined he had no connection to the murders. The next was a Colorado man named Daniel Nations who was also believed to be connected to the murder of a cyclist nearby. He was a registered sex offender and was also convicted of public indecency, and he also looked EERILY similar to the composite sketch. Eventually, police released a statement saying they were not majorly concerned about Nations in relation to Abby and Libby’s case. A new suspect, Charles Andrew Eldridge appeared next, also looking SUPER similar to the sketch. He was arrested after going to meet what he thought was a 13 year old girl for sexual activity, but was instead met by an undercover officer. In the end, he was also found to have no involvement in the murders of the two girls.

For the past few years, the small town of Delphi refused to give up on finding justice for these two young girls who did not deserve to die so young. Local law enforcement refused to give up either. On April 22, 2019 they held a press conference to inform the public the case was “moving in a new direction.” During this press conference they added more to the voice recording of the attacker updating it to “guys…down the hill.” They were hopeful that someone who recognized the voice would come forward. They also released an updated sketch of a man who appeared to be much younger than the last between the ages of 18 and 40, claiming this was more similar to the face of the man that was recorded on Libby’s phone.

There have still been no arrests in the case of the murders of Libby and Abby. There have been over 1,000 people interviewed in this case, but none have been convicted. They believe the killer is local and is hiding in plain sight. Anyone who may know anything is still asked to come forward and share their information. The police and the families of the victims refuse to give up hope that one day the killer will be found. There is a reward of 250,000 for any tips that lead to an arrest in the case.
